What's a Jarekhye?

I'm Jarekhye Covarrubias, and I make fragrances that feel like memories you can wear.
I didn't go to perfume school. I didn't apprentice in Grasse. I taught myself by obsessing over notes, compositions, and the way scent can make you feel something. Before I launched Khye Fragrances in 2023, I'd already created over 100 fragrances for other houses—Haught Parfums, Ganache Parfums—learning my craft one bottle at a time.
But Khye is different. This is personal. This is where I get to honor the music that raised me—90s-2010 R&B, hip-hop, neo-soul—and translate it into scent. Every fragrance I create is like composing a song: opening notes, a heart, a lasting impression. It's all about rhythm, warmth, and soul.
Before I became a perfumer, I spent over a decade in social work leadership in California, supporting unhoused youth and adults navigating crisis and survival. Those years taught me that scent isn't just about smelling good—it's about feeling safe, grounded, and seen. That's what I try to create with every bottle.
My style? Gourmand-forward. Cozy. Nostalgic. Think coffee, cocoa, citrus, pastry notes—the kind of scents that make you close your eyes and remember something warm. My fragrance Black Love was named a "Top Artisan Fragrance of 2025" by TasteTV, and I'm listed on Fragrantica alongside the perfumers I've always admired.
When I'm not blending fragrances, I'm curating playlists, digging through vinyl, and staying connected to the culture and music that inspire everything I do. For me, fragrance is more than a product. It's a conversation. A memory. A feeling. It's personal, soulful, and entirely yours.
That's Khye Fragrances. That's me.
